John’s journey into the world of directing was undoubtedly influenced by his upbringing: his mother was an opera singer, and his father was a career Army and then Marine. For John, it seemed only natural that he would embark on a career as a director.

His career took a pivotal turn when he was hired as a producer on a documentary for British Channel Four, where he was exposed to the art of high-quality production and documentary storytelling. They produced a funny video that explained the benefits of savings and compound interest, generated record participation, won multiple awards, and was even featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal!
